“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)

Why are we so afraid of those who are different from us? History has shown that when someone is different from what those in the majority has labeled “normal,” then steps are taken to eradicate that person or group. Hitler did this when he exterminated 6 million Jews during the Holocaust. We do this today when we show racism and elitism toward those who are from different races or cultures than we are. In today’s society, we do not go around killing those around us, but we often snub those who have a different skin color, who have a different ethnic background, who profess a different faith or no faith at all, or who have a different lifestyle. Until Next Year…

“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” (Psalm 42:11)

Now that the holidays are over, I have taken down all of the Christmas decorations and put them away for safekeeping until next year. Each year, this New Year’s ritual always leaves me feeling a little sad. There’s just something about the joy of the Christmas season that makes me want to leave things out as long as possible. It seems that as soon as the decorations come down and the bills come due, it’s easy to forget about being “merry and bright” and to become overwhelmed by the worries of daily life.
