Finding Hope This Christmas

Posted in Christianity at 7:20 pm by Staci Hart Mauney

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD…” Psalm 31:24

For many people, hope seems far away this Christmas season. From the incomprehensible school tragedy in Connecticut to elusive peace in the Middle East, people everywhere are struggling to find meaning. The world is a dark place, full of evil, and that point has been driven home over the last few months as disturbed individuals took the lives of many innocent men, women, and children in a movie theater massacre, a mall, and a school.

While hope may seem far away, we know that Jesus is never far away at all. He is always near, and “[w]e wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield” (Psalm 33:20). Christmas is the time of year that we celebrate that hope, never forgetting what an awesome sacrifice he made for us. Although darkness rages around us, we have a hope that is greater than this world because he has saved us. All we have to do is turn to him, and he will be there. Even though we can’t see him, we know he’s there because he never leaves us. He will give us strength to carry on for another day and hope for an eternal future with him.
