God’s Creation

“Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made…” (John 1:3)

Growing up, my family took many vacations out West, where my dad’s family lives. Each summer, my parents, my brother, and I would pile into the car for a road trip. My dad tried to break up the monotony of these trips by taking various routes to his family home in Nevada. Several times, we ventured through California, stopping to get our feet wet in the Pacific Ocean and see the petrified trees at the Sequoyah National Forest. Once, we came home through Yellowstone National Park, where we saw moose grazing and the Old Faithful geyser shooting a hundred feet into the air each hour like clockwork. Another time, we took a harrowing trip through the breathtaking Rocky Mountains in Colorado, where we travelled to majestic heights – and prayed we wouldn’t plunge over the next cliff!  Read the rest of this entry »

Attitude Is Everything

“…for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances…” (Phil. 4:11)

As a senior in high school, my principal and softball coach emphasized having the right attitude. Each day, we approached the softball field ready to play, knowing that if we had a bad attitude, we would have to change it pretty quickly in order to get anything accomplished. Developing the right attitude helped us work together as a team, and we even got t-shirts with the slogan, “Attitude Is Everything,” emblazoned on them to remind us to work hard at all times. I think I even still have mine somewhere. Thanks to our coach, we learned the importance of hard work – but more importantly, how working hard with the right attitude could help us accomplish even more.
