Growing Through Fear and Rejection

“…may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God…” (Ephesians 3:18-19)

When I was a sophomore in college, I changed my major from accounting to English for two reasons: 1). I hated accounting and at 19 just couldn’t imagine working with numbers for the rest of my life; and 2) I loved words and wanted to be a writer. After graduation, I pursued several jobs as a writer, but most of those jobs were far from home. So instead of becoming a full-time writer, I began working in government and nonprofit positions where I used my writing and presentation skills. I then pursued writing part time. The Turning Points in Life

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” (Isa 30:21)

It’s been over a year since I’ve updated this blog, and I’ve decided to stop being so neglectful and revive it. A lot has happened in the last year – a job change, a move to the big city, and a book release! Thank you to all who have stuck with me during my absence. I plan to catch up, one story at a time. So let’s dive in, shall we?

When I first entered the professional world right out of college, I took a job I really didn’t want as a secretary. I had applied for writing jobs at several businesses, but most were far away from my hometown, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to move. Like most young college grads, I wanted to use my degree and not feel like I’d just wasted the last four and half years of my life. However, when my mom saw the ad for a secretary in the paper, I applied and then got the job. Read the rest of this entry »

Experiencing Change

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go…” (Joshua 1:9)

Throughout life, we will experience many changes. There will be marriage, maybe children, perhaps divorce or a job loss or a devastating health diagnosis. If these things do not happen to you, then they will happen to someone close to you. Life never stays the same no matter how much we prefer this. Some people are better at adjusting to changes than others. I am not one that adjusts quickly. I need time to process the changes, but sometimes life comes at you so fast there is just not time to think it through until it is all over. Even though I struggle with change, I have learned through the years that without it, we are not able to learn and grow. Change often provides the catalyst for growth that we need to spur us on to greater things. Read the rest of this entry »
